The famous musical score composed by Henry Mancini was initially based on the distinctive solo of saxophonist Blas Johnson, before the rest of the brass instruments joined him. Mancini composed this piece specifically for Johnson, whose distinctive style earned him fame as a member of The Wrecking Crew, a popular group of Los Angeles studio musicians.
